whether we see it or not, to see we must open our eyes to our greatness.... and oh what great things we will see.

Ask me a Question

The death of Michael Brown is heartbreaking, and Michelle and I send our deepest condolences to his family and his community at this very difficult time. As Attorney General Holder has indicated, the Department of Justice is investigating the situation along with local officials, and they will continue to direct resources to the case as needed. I know the events of the past few days have prompted strong passions, but as details unfold, I urge everyone in Ferguson, Missouri, and across the country, to remember this young man through reflection and understanding. We should comfort each other and talk with one another in a way that heals, not in a way that wounds. Along with our prayers, that’s what Michael and his family, and our broader American community, deserve.

I’m going to need some police reform and the political talk to stop.

Chicago woman loses 4th child to gun violence

peaceful-protest:

CHICAGO (AP) — At least five people were gunned down Saturday in Chicago, including a 34-year-old man whose mother had already lost her three other children to shootings.

Ronnie Chambers, who was his mother Shirley’s youngest child, was shot in the head while sitting in a parked car on the city’s West Side. A 21-year-old man who was also in the car was wounded, police said.

Shirley Chambers, whose two other sons and daughter were shot in separate attacks more than a decade ago, was left grieving again on Saturday, WLS-TV reported (http://bit.ly/VCSh8i ).

“Right now, I’m totally lost because Ronnie was my only surviving son,” Chambers said.

Shirley Chambers’ first child, Carlos, was shot and killed by a high school classmate in 1995 after an argument. He was 18. Her daughter Latoya, then 15, and her other son Jerome were shot and killed within months of one another in 2000.

And this is why I look at all these new found gun activists…. especially the ones of color, have you become so numb with the way that our lives are trifled with that you only care when white children are mowed down by guns? chicago is averaging 400-500 gun deaths a year. a year. chicago is a city btw, not a state. not a region. its a city, but we aren’t told to piece together enough information to even hold a conversation about the subject. it doesnt make the news that another black/brown baby is murdered. it is not talking point for the president…. who spent the majority of his formative years in chicago btw….. i just, you know that the killers don’t value their lives nor the lives of others… and how can you blame them when we clearly dont value their lives or their victim’s lives either……

So Mitt Romney’s baby Bain capital owns this company (Romney currently personally holds their stock as well) Sensata, based in Bainport, IL, shipped in replacement workers from China to be trained by current employees. These employees will lose their jobs by the end of the year.
They started a tumblr.
They also visited Romney’s campaign headquarters in Wisconsin to hand deliver an appeal to save their jobs.
The Romney campaign locked them out first.
Then they called the cops on them. Because wanting to deliver a frigging letter to a Presidential candidate, appealing to him to not send your job to China is apparently a criminal offense.
Video of attempted letter delivery, cop and all.
This needs to spread like wildfire.

Reblog widely please.

Americans protest fracking as Obama cheers for it
At Tuesday’s State of the Union address, US President Barack Obama did not seem to see a problem with fracking.
As fossil fuels are used up at record speeds, Obama announced from Washington this week, “We have a supply of natural gas that can last America nearly 100 years, and my administration will take every possible action to safely develop this energy.” According to the president, the fracking industry could create more than 600,000 jobs by the end of the decade and would have in place a clean alternative to oil processing. He proposed an “all-out, all-of-the-above” policy to tackle the country’s resources on all fronts in the best way possible, but while he suggested that fracking was the be-all to end-all answer to America’s energy woes, the reality is that rampant drilling could cause some serious repercussions.
In addition to adding carcinogens into the atmosphere, scientists earlier this month finally linked fracking to an outbreak of earthquakes in the state of Ohio. The Youngstown, OH region saw 11 small tremors in a matter of months after a year of drilling, prompting an investigation by specialists — and the results were far from favorable.
“This one year of pumping is a pulse that has been pushed into the ground, and it’s going to be spreading out for at least a year,” John Armbruster of Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory tells the Associated Press.

fracking causes earth quakes… or earth distruction. as well as dirtying clean natural water… which is illegal to collect and drink on your own anyways, but i digress. we live in a society in which we only give a fuck when its happening to us… and the politicians know this. they also know that when they slowly erode your rights whether its for capitalistic venture or just to see if you notice that by the time you fight what is already made LEGAL its too late. its harder. its supported by jobs now. its supported by lobbyists from this new industry that are also contributing to politicians reelection funds.
its like taking a stroll down a mountain while you watch other people tumble down the same mountain, then a politician taking the stroll with you trips your selfish ass down the mountain and no one is there to help you up. because you were silent while people were getting pitched down the side.

we have to stop this shit before its too late. even if its not in your backyard… once you allow it ANYWHERE it will inevitably end up in  your backyard.

sojournmytruth:

I am now collecting letters to President Obama for the Henrietta Lacks Project with the objectives of:
1. Impressing upon him the need to publicly acknowledge and apologize to the Lacks family.2. Raise a counter discourse to the narrative written by Rebecca Skloot and soon-to-be movie by Oprah Winfrey.3. Create a space for public discussion about the abuse and appropriation of black women’s bodies for the sake of research and profit. Why Henrietta Lacks? Her cells (HeLa) were extracted from her body while she was dying without the consent of her or her family. It was hidden for decades and her family has yet to receive proper justice. Her cells have led to the cure for polio and informed the research that led to gene mapping, invitro fertilization, and other solutions to health-medical issues.Letters can be of any length but should discuss your unique perspective on the use of black women’s bodies in U.S history, critique/limitations of Rebecca Skloots narrative, and why public acknowledgement/ apology is critical to move toward justice.Submissions and Questions can be directed to: HenriettaLacksProject@gmail.com

Leftish: Another Gem from Dr. Ron Paul...

In order to be successful in America, it would seem that you have to be a tad bit racist… i mean… look at all the shit that’s happening under Obama… cant support the disenfranchised and expect to be reelected. Thus the creation  and enforcement of a permanent underclass that is also the minority of the country… if they treated the majority empowered class like that then all hell would break lose. welcome to muthafuckin americaThe country where black people weren’t legally allowed in the country besides slavery until the 70’s….

“(Carjacking) is the hip-hop thing to do among urban youth who play unsuspecting whites like pianos.

The youth simply walk up to a car they like, pull a gun, tell the family to get out, steal their jewelry and wallets, and take the car to wreck. Such actions have ballooned in the recent months.
