Raising Racists: The Socialization of White Children in the Jim Crow South  by Kristina DuRocher
White southerners recognized that the perpetuation of segregation required whites of all ages to uphold a strict social order — especially the young members of the next generation. White children rested at the core of the system of segregation between 1890 and 1939 because their participation was crucial to ensuring the future of white supremacy. Their socialization in the segregated South offers an examination of white supremacy from the inside, showcasing the culture’s efforts to preserve itself by teaching its beliefs to the next generation.
In Raising Racists: The Socialization of White Children in the Jim Crow South, author Kristina DuRocher reveals how white adults in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries continually reinforced race and gender roles to maintain white supremacy.

I was recently thinking about this topic because of the whole lesbian spermbank incident. Those women suggest that raising their Black child is difficult because they live in a white racist community. I don’t doubt this. But why did they originally plan on raising a white child in a racist community in the first place?  Like, that’s not okay either.  Of all the things people try to shield their white children from, they seem to be totally okay with their children drowning in whiteness and overt racism.
It also reminds me of this scene at the grocery store between a Black woman and a white guy many weeks ago. I think he may have almost ran her over or something (I walked up after it had already begun so I’m unsure), and the Black woman was going off… cursing him out and he had his whole family in the car. He at first stayed calm, saying the lady shouldn’t be cursing because he had kids in the car. But after a while they both were at each other. I was totally on the guy’s side because they lady was going off and making a scene and just doing the absolute most.  But before the white guy pulls off though, he yells “WELFARE CHAMP!!!” out the window.
Now, if it’s not okay for your children to hear curse words from a random stranger, how in the world is it okay for your children to hear overt racism from their dad!?? their fucking dad.. the one that’s supposed to guide them.
It just makes me think how normal racism is for white kids to grow up in. Like, at least racism is around all the time, and as a Black kid, my parents would abhorring it.. not upholding it.
It’s like no matter how thoroughly we change the media and education in schools, all little Cody and Emily have to do is listen to the words coming out of their parents mouth to pick up white supremacy.
Anyways, I’m really interested in this book.

Bolded for emphasis and thought provocation. Lets be real, white people hate racism in theory yet practice and uphold the ever loving fuck out of it.

Leftish: Another Gem from Dr. Ron Paul...

In order to be successful in America, it would seem that you have to be a tad bit racist… i mean… look at all the shit that’s happening under Obama… cant support the disenfranchised and expect to be reelected. Thus the creation  and enforcement of a permanent underclass that is also the minority of the country… if they treated the majority empowered class like that then all hell would break lose. welcome to muthafuckin americaThe country where black people weren’t legally allowed in the country besides slavery until the 70’s….

“(Carjacking) is the hip-hop thing to do among urban youth who play unsuspecting whites like pianos.

The youth simply walk up to a car they like, pull a gun, tell the family to get out, steal their jewelry and wallets, and take the car to wreck. Such actions have ballooned in the recent months.
